Embracing Change and Making Shifts

Dear Friends,

I remember sitting with my College Visions advisor, Raul Cervantes, talking about Clark University’s Accepted Students Day. Clark was my very last choice on my list of 7 total acceptances – so I was already hesitant about considering Clark. While I could come up with many reasons not to go, the biggest was that neither of my parents could go with me. My dad was not in the country and my mom didn’t speak or understand English fluently. How would I get there? What would it look like that I was there alone, when the other students had parents with them? What if I had no one to talk to? Being a first generation college student, these moments always invoked some deeper emotions.

Important News From College Visions

Dear Friends,

I am writing to share the news that Tina Meetran will be transitioning out of her role as Executive Director of College Visions. After ten years of engagement with College Visions as a CV student, staff member, and leader – we are sad to see Tina leave, but we also know that Tina’s trajectory represents the best of CV. We support students and staff to set big goals and achieve those goals. We also encourage people to reflect on their lives holistically and to embrace change. We are thankful for Tina’s outstanding leadership during the challenges of the pandemic and are excited to see what her next journey brings.

It’s Graduation Season!

Meet CV Donor: Mary Cloud

“Applying to college is a complicated, very competitive and long process. There are so many steps that need to be completed, resources that can be tapped if known, and decisions to be made. It is a difficult process for every applicant but particularly if you are the first in your family to apply and don’t have the experience of others that went before you. Thus, CV is such an important resource that helps students every step of the way to successfully enter college and succeed in fulfilling their dreams.”

College Visions has an amazing community believing in and supporting us and one community member is Mary Cloud! She is a 11 year Rhode Island resident who has been working as a nurse for 46 years!

Meet Soon-to-be High School Graduate: Davina Mwelwa

2021 continues to look different for high school and college students, especially low-income, first-generation students who, in some cases, have to choose between entering the workforce to support themselves and help their families and going to college. It is a tough decision to make and with your continued support, CV continues to support students through it by showing them what resources are available. Thank you for your continued support!
