Lauren Zurier: College isn’t an award; it’s a gateway

February 15, 2018

Many public schools don’t have the resources to provide the sort of college counseling that private schools do, and it puts public school students—particularly those whose parents did not attend college—at a distinct disadvantage in the college application process. The whole college application process is much more competitive and confusing than it used to be, which makes CV’s work all the more valuable to the community.  CV is equally, if not more, valuable in the support it provides students after they matriculate. – Lauren Zurier, Esq

CV Post Grad

February 5, 2018

Have you ever wondered what CV alums do after graduation? As the RI economy recovers, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about whether our alums live and work in RI after graduation. Keeping track of millennials is an intensive project, but we have compiled some initial information:
  • 60% live in RI
  • 37% work in RI
  • 22% plan to stay in RI long-term
“After college, I wanted to gain hands on experience with educating urban youth. For two years, I was involved in City Year, an education non profit that focuses on lowering the achievement gap in under-deserved communities. Towards the end of my service year, I heard about Generation Citizen, where I currently work as a Senior Program Associate. GC seeks to provide all students in the US an action civics education. It’s been amazing to see youth advocate for change in their communities through government, so much so that it has inspired me to go to graduate school and receive my degree in Education Policy.” – Jaretta Konneh, Mount Holyoke ’14
