I was born in Guatemala and moved to Rhode Island with my family when I was nine years old. Higher education always seemed out of reach for me until College Visions, a local non-profit organization, took interest in me, and instilled in my life something I was longing for—hope.

When I saw the whole college application process, I already felt defeated. My College Visions advisor let me know that she was going to be there with me the whole time. She took that early fear away and made me push through and look at me now—I’m in college and doing great! 

Having someone who wants to listen to you talk about your experiences with college and lets you know that they believe in you is very uplifting, and a great reminder of why you are choosing the path that you are. It also reminds me that people are giving their time to me, so when I get older I need to give back.

I didn't know the first thing about applying to college or how to decide what was the perfect fit for me. But College Visions guided me through the whole process and continued to be there for me through their College Success Program. This is such a great resource for those in need of guidance because you become a member of a family-like community as well.

When I was in high school, I didn’t have any friends in college and the friends I did have didn’t seem so interested. Being at CV in a group of peers all motivated towards getting accepted into their top college choice was enough to keep me in the game.
