Do you need some good news? Meet Micaela! She entered College Visions in the summer of 2015 with the dream of going to college, and with a need to access the knowledge and resources to get there. With support from her CV advisor, Francesca, Micaela is now going through the college application process and has a new outlook on her future because of the opportunities you help provide.
I feel very thankful for being part of College Visions! My concern was that I would not be able to attend college because of personal hardships. Being at College Visions has proved to me that I have a chance, and that there are people like me out there who have gotten very far! Not only does CV prepare you for interviews, they help you with supplemental essays, and ESPECIALLY with financial aid!! The help I receive boosted my confidence in getting accepted to schools.
My name is Micaela Furtado, I am seventeen years old and I was born in Portugal. I attend Shea High School in Pawtucket and during my free time I spend time at College Visions, POD(project open door at RISD) and school for a club or activity.
One college I would like to attend is Mount Holyoke because it is a small school and I will get the personal attention that will help me get through college successfully. They also have a program “SAW” that focuses on helping students write, speak and argue with a purpose and confidently and I am really interested in this program, because one of my goals is to become a great writer. Also it is a diverse community and it’s important for me to be surrounded by people with different habits and cultures, because I can learn a lot from them and that is something that I appreciate because I come from a different country and culture and I love sharing cultural stories with other people! Mount Holyoke is really my dream school.
Reflecting on where I am now, I feel very thankful for being part of College Visions! My concern was that I would not be able to attend college because of personal hardship and being at College Visions has proved to me that I have a chance, and that there are people like me out there who have gotten so far! Not only does College Visions prepare you for interviews, they help you with supplemental essays, and ESPECIALLY with financial aid!! The help I received boosted my confidence about getting accepted to schools. Now, I look forward to getting accepted to my dream school with a great scholarship!
The thing I am most fearful of in regards to the college application process is not being able to pay for college. My advisor, Francesca always informs me about scholarship opportunities. They know what they are doing, they know what you need, and you are never left out!
The most important thing that I have learned from CV is that, I have to believe in myself, because I can do it! I worry too much and I’ve got to relax a little and tell myself that I will get through things successfully! Being so nervous about the college application process, did not get in the way of applying to schools because I have a lot of people helping me and I was able to control my emotions and fears!
To all the donors who support CV and make this resource available to me, I want to say that I am very thankful for this program! I have learned so much and I was able to help other students and friends who are not part of this program, by helping them with essays and by motivating them just like CV did to me! In the future, I hope to see College Visions grow, because they have so much to offer and there are so many students out there who would benefit from College Visions’ help!
