I am now a professor and also see how education is not only important for individual advancement, it’s important for the fabric of our democracy. Higher education helps to educate the next generation for engaged citizenship—and we need active citizens now more than ever.
As a Public & Community Service Studies Professor at Providence College, Nick understands the impact higher education can have on a low-income, first-generation student’s life. He supports CV students because they are the future educators who will carry on our legacy. We are so proud to have Nick, a dedicated giver, on the CV team and we hope you read on and learn more about Nick!
Could you tell me a little about yourself?
“I live in Providence and am a faculty member at Providence College.”
Is education important to you and why? What was your educational journey like?
My Mom graduated from college the year before me, and seeing her work full-time and go to school at night most of my life inspired me and made me appreciate the hard work it takes to be successful. She actually kept going and went on to get her masters and became a teacher. So, I see the importance of higher education as a vehicle for helping people find meaningful work. I am now a professor and also see how education is not only important for individual advancement, it’s important for the fabric of our democracy. Higher education helps to educate the next generation for engaged citizenship—and we need active citizens now more than ever.
