Black and Latino Male Fellowship
In a concerted effort to address the disparities in college enrollment among young Black and Latino males, College Visions launched a new initiative – the Black and Latino Male Fellowship (The Fellowship). This innovative program aims to increase college enrollment rates and foster supportive cohorts of Black and Latino men who uplift and guide each other towards academic success.
The Fellowship recognizes and tackles the unique challenges faced by these underrepresented groups. National and local statistics consistently show lower college enrollment rates among young Black and Latino males, reflecting systemic barriers that hinder educational advancement.
This two-year college and career readiness program is designed to provide tailored support and mentorship to participants. The culturally responsive, strengths-based curriculum includes monthly learning circles and individual advising sessions. Year-one focuses on a critical examination of the Black and Latino male experience in education, academic skill-building, community-building, wellness, and college exploration. In year-two, students focus on applying to college. In addition to participating in workshops and advising sessions, The Fellowship Scholars will go on visits to colleges and network with Black and Latino male professionals and community leaders.
By providing targeted support, mentorship, and fostering a sense of community, this initiative is not only increasing access to higher education but also creating a network that extends beyond the program itself and cultivating cohorts of empowered Black and Latino males who are poised to make a positive impact on their communities and beyond.
