Each fall we send off a cohort of CV College Access Program graduates to schools throughout Rhode Island, New England, and beyond, but we don’t need to say goodbye. Instead CV advisors keep in touch with college students through the Kolajo Paul Afolabi College Success Program. Local students are always welcome in the CV office, and we reach out to farther flung students through phone, email, Skype, and in-person visits.
College Visions students are studying abroad in Korea, Spain, and Colombia. Because of your support, CV students achieve their goals at home and around the world! Read more about Janessa and Chris’s adventures here.
This month, we had the pleasure of speaking with our very own alum Gleyribel Rodriguez, Mount Pleasant High School class of 2008 and University of Rhode Island class of 2012. Gleyribel is a CV three-fer—a CV alum, a current CV advisor, and a CV donor. Gleyribel is an amazing combination of compassionate and dedicated youth worker, and highly organized fund development coordinator. We are very lucky to work with her. Thank you for sharing your story Gleyribel, and thanks for everything you do to support CV!
I joined College Visions at the end of 11th grade, and I’m now a student at Rhode Island College majoring in Computer Science. Before I joined CV I thought they would just help me get into college and that would be it. But thankfully they still stand beside me through this process.
During the intense college application and financial aid application season, volunteers provide essential support for College Visions students. This January, College Visions students will need more help as they apply for financial aid. If you would like to help CV students on their college journey, please join us in January for our annual FAFSA parties (training and pizza provided). We’d love to see you!
